As a part of a collectiv project of the Berlin Biennale 2012, Zirkumflex will be involved in «the Draftmen’S Congress» the May 5th at the St Elizabeth church. From 3pm to 8pm.
The “Draftsmen’s Congress“ is a participatory project of the 7th Berlin Biennale, which takes its inspiration from the fact that the mediation of knowledge and information of the present is strongly influenced by images. Based on this understanding, the Congress deals with to investigate the medium of drawing and invited, among others, the Zirkumflex’s team to express themselves on the whole interior of the church, which will be covered with paper and hence in order to become a big canvas.
The “Draftsmen’s Congress“ will take place in the St. Elisabeth Church in Berlin-Mitte. Invited draftsmen and –women will form working groups and design the space. They will react on the already existing drawings, compete with each other and discuss exclusively via drawing. The spectrum of these groups will include the whole range of artistic professionals as well as non-professionals.
The groups will comprise artists, art students, art professors, graphic designers, architects, cartoonists, engineers and other individuals who draw as part of their profession or privately. Furthermore, social groups such as children, political activists, and immigrants as well as the audience of the 7th Berlin Biennale will be invited to participate in this creative process. Social backgrounds will be revealed and topics from the field of politics, social sciences, economics, and pedagogy will be explored and discussed.
The traces that the participants of the congress leave will alter the inside of the church continuously throughout the duration of the 7th Berlin Biennale. The aim of the project is not to create a communal piece of work; rather, a kind of artistic manifest will be expressed. The result extends the creative process of each individual and generates its value via the dialogic exchange.
We proudly present as a part of the 7th Berlin Biennale 2012 program the launch of the magazine Tiempo Muerto, an editorial project by Juan Pablo Macias made in collaboration with Zirkumflex and the curator Emily Barsi.
Tiempo Muerto (Dead Time) has two functions: To serve as a retrospective survey of the Biblioteca Social Reconstruir (one of the main anarchist resources in Mexico) and the events generated around its eviction in 2009 ; and to serve as a statement and record of the economical strategies which were used with the aim of buying a house to host this library in Mexico City.
The publication’s launch will take place at the Zirkumflex Art Space on Sunday the 6th of May from 3 pm to 9 pm and will provide the public with an opportunity to meet the authors and share ideas with drinks and music.
